General elections were held in the Bahamas on 2 May 2007. The result was an opposition victory, with the Free National Movement, led by former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, claiming 23 of the 41 seats. Incumbent Prime Minister Perry Christie conceded defeat in a phone call to his rival.〔(Bahamas government ousted in poll ), BBC News, 3 May 2007.〕 Ingraham was sworn into the office of Prime Minister on 4 May. 〔(Swearing in the Rt. Hon. Hubert Alexander Ingraham ) Bahamas Government, 4 May 2007〕 The Progressive Liberal Party was expected to win re-election up until the Anna Nicole Smith scandal, when Minister of Immigration Shane Gibson, a PLP Member or Parliament was accused of cozying up to the former playmate by fast-tracking residency for her 〔(Bahamas voters oust government ) Reuters, 3 May 2007〕 and Howard K. Stern. His government later came under fire when a picture of Smith was leaked to the press with his immigration minister embracing her. 〔(Smith saga grows stranger still ) USA Today, 12 February 2007〕 Despite the scandal, Gibson was re-elected. ==Results==
